A 34-year-old e-bike rider was seriously injured after colliding with a tram in Vienna-Hernals on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred at the intersection of Mayssengasse and Gschwandnergasse. According to initial findings, the tram was traveling along Mayssengasse toward Taubergasse and intended to go straight through the intersection. At the same time, the e-bike rider was riding on Gschwandnergasse and also aimed to proceed straight through the intersection. The tram driver reported that the cyclist entered the intersection without slowing down, and despite immediate emergency braking, the collision could not be avoided. The cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital's shock room. Police investigations suggested possible impairment due to substances. Both the tram and the e-bike sustained damage.
