In Kaduna, TMDK Group is advancing efforts to bolster Nigeria's energy and food security through its newly operational agro-industrial park. Located along the Kaduna-Zaria Expressway in the Rigachikun area, the TMDK Agro Industrial Park stands as a sprawling complex valued at approximately $75 million. This investment aims to tap into northern Nigeria’s agricultural potential and contribute to addressing the nation’s persistent food insecurity. The project, which faced delays due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic during its early stages of construction in 2019, was completed in 2024. It operates as a fully integrated hub equipped with advanced machinery, including a daily capacity of 1,000 metric tonnes for animal feed production, a 300 metric tonne soya processing unit, and a large-scale corn mill. Suhailu Ismaila, the Acting Managing Director of the TMDK Agro Park, emphasized the company's vision of establishing agro parks throughout all the geo-political zones of Nigeria. While this goal remains in progress, the company is already enhancing the productivity of farmers nationwide. Ismaila highlighted ongoing initiatives to develop new food products, such as corn-based pasta and noodles, and expand into the production of margarine and mayonnaise using locally sourced ingredients. These developments underscore TMDK Group’s commitment to backward integration strategies aimed at fortifying the country’s food security framework. TMDK Group traces its origins back to Tamaidukka Investment Company Limited, established on July 8, 2001. Over the course of 25 years, the company has evolved into a leading Nigerian conglomerate spanning multiple sectors, including energy, agriculture, and infrastructure. Its current portfolio includes the TMDK Agro Park, TMDK Oil Traders, TMDK Infrastructures, TMDK Terminals, and TMDK Downstreams, each operating in key cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Suleja, Ogun, Kaduna, and beyond. Through targeted investments in petroleum terminals, logistics networks, and large-scale agro-processing facilities, TMDK Group is developing an interconnected business model that supports energy distribution and enhances the value generated across Nigeria’s agricultural supply chain. Ola Olalere, the General Manager of Business & Planning, noted that the company sources raw materials from various regions across the country. For example, limestone is procured from Edo State, wheat bran from Lagos and Port Harcourt, while grains such as soya and maize are sourced from the north and other areas. This extensive sourcing network enables TMDK Group to support small businesses and local economies, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for regional development. The TMDK Integrated Agro-Industrial Complex represents a unique initiative in Nigeria, designed to transform agricultural commodities into a wide array of food and industrial products suitable for both human and animal consumption. The facility processes maize, soybeans, and other crops into items like corn flour, corn grits, edible vegetable oil, animal feed, and innovative corn-based pasta and noodles. By consolidating agricultural processing and manufacturing within a single industrial complex, TMDK Group is playing a pivotal role in enhancing Nigeria’s domestic food-processing capabilities and reducing dependence on imported finished goods. Rather than exporting raw agricultural commodities, the company focuses on value addition through comprehensive processing, thereby contributing to the nation’s economic growth and self-reliance in critical sectors. As TMDK continues to expand its footprint across Nigeria, its efforts reflect a broader trend of private-sector-led development aimed at tackling some of the country’s most pressing challenges.
