The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), through its BC Cell working president Ramesh Goud, has called on the Andhra Pradesh government to expand the Thalliki Vandanam educational assistance scheme to include all eligible students, criticizing the current government for diluting the program by imposing restrictive eligibility criteria. Goud highlighted that the previous YSRCP administration had launched the Amma Vodi initiative to aid economically disadvantaged students but claimed the current government has reduced its scope by renaming it and limiting the number of beneficiaries. He cited UDISE data showing that Andhra Pradesh has approximately 87 lakh students, yet the Thalliki Vandanam scheme is being implemented for only 66 lakh students with a budget of ₹10,126 crore. Goud argued that an annual allocation of ₹13,112 crore would be needed to provide ₹15,000 per eligible student and noted that over ₹22,000 crore in assistance remains unpaid. He further warned that the YSRCP will persist with protests until the scheme is fully implemented and all commitments made by the coalition government under the 'Super Six' agenda are fulfilled.
