The most challenging, yet arguably most rewarding path starts from the lower station of the cable car, leading hikers up a steep trail on the northern side of the plateau. After two hours of climbing, the terrain flattens slightly, eventually bringing them to the edge of the plateau known as Dol. Here, they walk among shepherd’s cottages and cross back into the forest, continuing their ascent until they finally reach the highlands of Konjščica. Once there, hikers encounter a landscape shaped by centuries of pastoral activity. Scattered across the plateau are small wooden shelters, remnants of old shepherding traditions, while livestock graze freely in the open fields. Two freshwater springs provide essential water sources for both animals and humans alike. At the core of the plateau lies a dramatic cliff face, known locally as the “vrtača,” which drops sharply downward. Along its edges, traditional shepherd’s huts stand as silent witnesses to the region’s history. Despite its isolation, Konjščica holds a special place in local lore. Surrounded by dense forests and lacking clear views, it maintains an air of mystery. The lack of direct access makes it less appealing to casual tourists, preserving its untouched charm.
