Ibom Air’s latest Airbus aircraft is second among the 10 ordered by ex-Gov Emmanuel’s administration

Ibom Air, a commercial airline owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, has received its second Airbus A220-300 aircraft, which was ordered by the administration of former Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2021. The aircraft, registered 5N-CDC, was officially handed over at the Airbus A220 final assembly facility in Mirabel, Canada, following the signing of transfer documents. The delivery comes as part of the state’s 39th anniversary celebrations and marks the continuation of Emmanuel’s legacy in establishing Ibom Air, which made Akwa Ibom the first sub-national entity in Nigeria to own a commercial airline. The order of 10 Airbus A220-300s was negotiated during the 2021 Dubai Airshow, making Nigeria the only African country to sign such a deal with Airbus. The airline plans to expand its operations across West and Central Africa.
