Dino Melaye, a former senator from Kogi State, has dismissed criticisms of his public display of wealth, stating he is unconcerned with public opinion and focused solely on his relationship with God. In an interview with KAA Truths, Melaye expressed indifference toward the judgment of others, asserting that his actions are guided by faith rather than societal expectations. Melaye responded to recent accusations that he shows off his wealth and lacks sensitivity to the struggles of ordinary Nigerians. He claimed that such critiques hold no weight in his life, emphasizing that they do not influence his decisions or financial habits. During the interview, he reiterated that he does not engage with social media commentary about himself, stating that he neither reads nor cares about public perception. “I don’t care whether anybody likes it or not. It doesn’t bother me,” he said. The former lawmaker argued that criticism from individuals who lack personal knowledge of him should not dictate his lifestyle choices. He pointed out that the majority of those offering judgment operate under limited resources, often using minimal data plans to access social media. According to Melaye, these individuals' opinions hold little relevance to his daily life. “Why should that be of concern to me, when it won’t affect my next meal, won’t affect my next trip, won’t even affect my bank balance?” he questioned. Melaye also emphasized that his public sharing of wealth and lifestyle is not a form of arrogance but an act of gratitude. He described his posts as declarations of assets and expressions of appreciation for God's blessings. When discussing his social media activity, he noted that each image of his properties or lifestyle is accompanied by acknowledgment of divine favor. “This is not by my effort, not by my strength, it is only by the grace of the Almighty God,” he explained. Born into a humble background, Melaye believes his success is a result of divine intervention rather than personal achievement. He described his journey from poverty to prominence as evidence of God’s grace. “I came from a very lowly background, but God, in his infinite mercy, out of his grace, out of divine favour, I am where I am today,” he said. In addressing concerns about insensitivity, Melaye asserted that God desires prosperity for all, not poverty. He maintained that his wealth is not a sign of superiority but a means to fulfill his responsibilities. “It is not the design of God for you to be poor. God’s intention for you is to be successful,” he stated. Melaye also highlighted his long-standing commitment to philanthropy, noting that many of his charitable initiatives remain largely unknown to the public. He mentioned programs such as his widow support initiative, which has operated for 27 years, and his orphanage, which includes 100 beds. Additionally, he spoke of scholarships awarded to hundreds of students over two decades. “My focus is on fulfilling what I regard as my responsibility,” he concluded.
