On 11 June 2026, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) announced the launch of its inaugural "E-commerce Innovation Expo 2026," set to take place on 25 and 26 June at the HKPC Building. The event is part of the HKSAR Government’s broader e-commerce policy framework known as "Creativity * E-commerce - Beyond Limits." Organized in collaboration with the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau (CEDB) and the Trade and Industry Department, the Expo aims to provide a comprehensive platform for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to explore opportunities in cross-border e-commerce, artificial intelligence (AI), and other emerging technologies. With over 240 supporting organizations and Hang Seng Bank serving as the Diamond Partner, the Expo promises to be a significant gathering for businesses looking to expand their reach beyond local markets.
The event features eight thematic exhibition zones designed to address the full spectrum of challenges and opportunities faced by SMEs aiming to enter international markets. These include Cross-border E-commerce Experience, New Retail Tech Application, Brand x IP Value-added, Smart Operations, and E-commerce Go-Global Support. Each zone brings together e-commerce platforms, technology providers, intellectual property (IP) licensors, and government funding booths to offer hands-on experiences and guidance. Additionally, the Expo includes over 80 exhibitors, ensuring a diverse range of perspectives and expertise available to attendees.
A highlight of the Expo is the inclusion of ten seminars featuring industry experts who will share insights on cross-border strategies, market trends, technological innovations, and successful IP brand collaborations. Topics covered will range from converting online traffic into actual sales to utilizing AI for operational efficiency and navigating the complexities of global supply chains. Practical workshops and live demonstrations will also be conducted, allowing participants to gain immediate knowledge and engage in direct consultations with professionals. These sessions aim to equip SMEs with actionable strategies and tools necessary for their global expansion.
To further assist SMEs in accessing financial support, a dedicated Government funding zone has been established within the Expo. This area provides detailed information on various funding schemes introduced in the 2026-27 Budget, aimed at helping enterprises enhance their competitiveness and expand into new markets using advanced technologies. Exclusive guided tours led by specialists will be organized to ensure that participants can effectively navigate the Expo and identify the most appropriate resources for their specific needs.
The timing of the Expo aligns with recent government initiatives focused on strengthening the competitiveness of local businesses. In the 2026-27 Budget, additional funding was allocated to programs such as the "BUD Fund," which supports enterprises in leveraging technologies like AI to improve their market position. These efforts reflect a growing emphasis on fostering innovation and enabling SMEs to adapt to rapidly changing market conditions.
While the focus of the Expo is primarily on e-commerce and technological advancement, it also underscores the importance of strategic planning and execution for businesses aiming to operate internationally. By bringing together a wide array of stakeholders—from technology developers to government agencies—the event seeks to create a collaborative environment where SMEs can learn, network, and implement effective strategies for global expansion. The combination of practical workshops, expert seminars, and direct access to funding resources makes this Expo a pivotal opportunity for SMEs to take meaningful steps toward achieving their international ambitions.
