Researchers observed no significant impact of cold periods on brain development, indicating that the effects of heat appear to be distinct from those of colder climates. They emphasized that rising global temperatures necessitate measures to reduce heat exposure for pregnant women and infants, underscoring the urgency of addressing climate-related health risks. Further analysis of the data suggested possible behavioral changes among affected children. Between the ages of 13 and 16, those exposed to high temperatures during pregnancy exhibited increased externalizing symptoms, such as impulsivity, aggression, and noncompliant behavior. However, these associations were not definitive enough to draw conclusive statements about causation. The researchers called for action from policymakers and society, urging the implementation of strategies to mitigate the effects of extreme weather on vulnerable populations.
