Thousands of worshippers at the central ceremony of the 516th Day of Ivatovica

Thousands of people gathered at the central program held as part of the 516 Days of Ajvatovica celebration, which took place on the plateau of Ajvatovica. The event was marked by religious significance and historical reflection, drawing participants from various backgrounds, including devout followers and high-ranking officials. Attendees passed through the stone of Ayaz Ded, a symbolic act representing spiritual commitment, before participating in the main program. This gathering served as both a tribute to the past and a call to action for the present and future.

The program featured performances by the Turkish military orchestra “Mehter” and groups of students who recited ilahis, kasidas, and spiritual songs. These included the choir of Elçi Ibrahim-pasha’s medrese and the group “Rejjan.” The performances were intended to evoke a sense of devotion and cultural heritage, reinforcing the connection between faith and tradition. The event also emphasized the importance of unity and resilience, themes that resonated throughout the speeches delivered by prominent Islamic figures.

In his address, Mufti Ismail Smajlović of Banjaluka, acting as the representative of the Reisul-ulema of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, spoke about the significance of visiting Ajvatovica. He described it as a meeting point with a place of piety, devotion, and insight into the power of worship. Smajlović urged attendees to reflect on whether their own acts of worship matched the level of dedication demonstrated by Ayaz Ded. He encouraged individuals to strive for greater awareness of the strength of worship and devotion in everyday practices such as prayer, pilgrimage, charity, and kind words.

Smajlović also highlighted the need for individuals to lead lives of dignity and perseverance, emphasizing the importance of maintaining virtues while controlling weaknesses. In an era dominated by self-interest, he warned against allowing passions to dictate one's path in life, arguing that rational beings should use their intellect to uphold values and achieve success. He pointed out that this approach leads to strength and elevates individuals within the created world.

Reflecting on the historical significance of Ajvatovica, Smajlović honored notable ancestors, including Džezzar who halted Napoleon’s advance, Mahmut-pasha, and the Bosnians who built bridges along the Silk Road. He mentioned ancestors who founded cities such as Gazi Isa-beg, Husrev-beg, and Ibrahim-pasha, as well as the youth today who carry the light of Good Bosnians around the world. He specifically referenced Rahmetli Alija Izetbegović, who led the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, enabling patriots to live freely today.

Mufti Ahmed Adilović of Travnik described Ajvatovica as a symbol of endurance, prayer, and divine assistance. He noted that it serves as a reminder that hope never fades when the heart is connected to its Creator. Standing on this historic site, he reminded attendees that faith had transformed into strength, opening paths and overcoming fear. In the context of current challenges, Adilović stressed the imperative of preserving unity, stating that without unity there can be no strength, survival, or future. He emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina is the only homeland for its people and that together they have the opportunity for survival and a better tomorrow.

Adilović further cautioned that representatives of the nation and other patriots must not work against each other, weakening the position of the nation and the stability of the state. While individuals have the right to choose their political affiliations, these choices should not become reasons for disunity or the weakening of the country. He insisted that the interests of the nation and the state must come before personal, party, or other interests.

Among the attendees was Emina Ramljak from Lower Vakuf, who arrived on horseback and wore traditional attire she designed herself. This choice reflected her practical application of knowledge gained through studying textile engineering and fashion design. Her presence underscored the blend of cultural pride and modern expression seen among participants.

The event concluded with a collective reaffirmation of unity and purpose, echoing the sentiments expressed by the speakers. As the sun set over the plateau, the gathering left behind a message of resilience, faith, and the enduring legacy of those who came before. The 516 Days of Ajvatovica continued to serve as a powerful reminder of the shared history and aspirations of the community.
