Participants will work alongside expert Rainer Stropek to create a complete chat agent based on a specific project, walking through the entire development process, from setting up the project structure to integrating external systems via the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and deploying a secure application with automated quality assurance. The training begins by positioning Claude Code within the broader landscape of coding agents, distinguishing it from other tools such as Claude Chat, Claude Cowork, and the Anthropic API. Participants will then implement custom tool calls using typed functions and Zod schemas, ensuring these components are secured with unit, integration, and end-to-end tests. They will also utilize Git Worktrees to test multiple design variations simultaneously. A dedicated session focuses on security measures, including permissions, approval strategies, and protections against prompt injection and tool poisoning, both for the Claude Code harness and the participant’s own agent. As the sessions progress, participants will build a fully functional agent interface using CopilotKit and the open AG-UI protocol, incorporating features such as streaming, shared state, and generative user interfaces. Skills and hooks will automate repetitive development tasks, such as formatting, testing, and secret scans. The final session will focus on deploying the chat agent productively, utilizing GitHub Actions for CI/CD, automated reviews with subagents, and a clean human-in-the-loop model.
