‘Have fun in hell’: IDF kills Islamic Jihad man who held Rom Braslavski hostage, abused him

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Tuesday the killing of three senior terror operatives, among them a Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) member who had held and abused Israeli hostage Rom Braslavski during his captivity. The operation marked a significant escalation in the IDF’s campaign against terrorism following the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, which saw over 370 Israelis killed and hundreds taken hostage. Braslavski, who was freed after nearly two years in captivity, expressed relief and vindication upon learning of his abductor’s demise, describing the act as a personal victory.

The IDF stated that the targeted individual, Talal Abd al-Aal, was a high-ranking figure within the PIJ and played a central role in the October 7 attack. During the conflict, he was assigned to hold Israeli captives, including Braslavski, who was kidnapped while working as a security guard at the event. In a video shared on social media, Braslavski recounted these experiences, expressing deep emotion and relief upon hearing of his former captor’s death.

The IDF conducted a precision strike in southern Gaza on Sunday, resulting in the death of Al-Aal. The military emphasized that the operation was part of its ongoing efforts to eliminate threats posed by October 7 terrorists. The strike was reportedly carried out using advanced drone technology, reflecting the IDF’s increasing reliance on remote targeting capabilities to minimize civilian casualties. The military also noted that Al-Aal had been actively involved in planning further attacks and had been a key figure in the PIJ’s operations throughout the war.

In addition to Al-Aal, the IDF announced the deaths of two other individuals linked to the October 7 attack. One of them was Ali Qaid Mohammed Stitan, identified as a platoon commander in the PIJ’s elite forces. Stitan was believed to have infiltrated Israeli territory during the initial attack and had since engaged in attempts to carry out additional attacks on IDF troops and civilians. A separate strike on Monday resulted in the death of Mohammad Fathi Abd al-Hay Abu Fakher, the commander of the Yabna Battalion in Hamas’s Rafah Brigade. While this latter target was associated with Hamas rather than the PIJ, the IDF highlighted the broader effort to dismantle networks of terror groups operating in the region.

Braslavski, now free, has become a vocal advocate for justice and accountability. His public statements, including the viral social media post where he declared, “Have fun in hell,” reflect both personal trauma and a sense of closure. He has spoken about the psychological toll of his captivity, including repeated sexual assaults and torture, and has called for greater awareness of the plight of hostages. His release in October 2025 came after extensive negotiations and international pressure, underscoring the complex geopolitical dynamics surrounding the Israel-Palestine conflict.

As the IDF continues its operations in Gaza, the focus remains on dismantling terrorist infrastructure and preventing future attacks. The killing of Al-Aal and others represents a strategic move to disrupt the leadership structures of organizations like the PIJ and Hamas.
