Shooting at school: Children screaming and running in fear, parents in panic

A shooting near a school in Lapljem Sel, a village with a majority Serbian population on Kosovo, left children in fear and sparked panic among parents. The incident occurred late yesterday evening near a local tavern close to the school, where a large number of children were present. According to informal reports, police have detained several individuals. Tamara Živić, a resident of Lapljem Sel, described how she saw a man in a black shirt who came from the tavern and began firing shots. She told Tanjug that the children watched in horror as he raised his hand and started shooting. The woman recounted that the children, including younger ones aged five and above, witnessed the event. She noted seeing three girls passing by the tavern before they suddenly ran away. “I saw them start running and fleeing,” she said. At the moment the gunfire was heard, Živić rushed with her one-year-old child toward the school playground, where her daughter had already gathered many other children each day. “There was such panic that the children and women present began screaming and fleeing. I started shouting, searching for my child and other children I knew. They were so scared and in such panic that nobody heard me. I ran towards them and found my child. Then I found other children with whom my child plays,” she explained. Živić emphasized that due to safety concerns, restaurants near schools should be closed. The Kosovo Police conducted an inspection of the scene, though further details remain undisclosed, according to Informer.rs. Social media platform X reported that at least two people were detained following the shooting at the tavern located adjacent to the primary school in Lapljem Sel near Pristina. The shooting took place at the same time when a large group of children of different ages were staying on the school playing field.
