Group appoints APC chieftain, Ibrahim Megida as Lagos Co-ordinator A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Ibrahim Alao Megida, has been named as the Lagos State Co-ordinator of the Renewed Initiative For Grassroots Development, a national socio-political group. The announcement came following a meeting held at Hon. Megida's campaign office in Cemetery Street, Ebute Metta. The group's National Secretary, Barrister Adegboyega Ibrahim, led the executive team during the gathering, emphasizing the strategic importance of Megida's extensive experience in grassroots politics and his role as a tactician in previous political campaigns. Megida, known for his deep involvement in local governance and community engagement, was chosen for his ability to leverage his network and influence to support the group's objectives. Barrister Adegboyega highlighted that Megida's insights into political dynamics were invaluable, stating that the group sought to benefit from his knowledge and expertise. “As a politician, Alhaji Megida knows quite a lot of things we do not know,” he remarked, underscoring the decision to appoint Megida as a key figure in their operations. During the meeting, Megida expressed his surprise at the offer to lead the Lagos chapter. Despite being a senior member of the Mainland Independent Group and part of the political family of Honourable Tunji Bello, he accepted the position with enthusiasm. He cited his commitment to advancing President Tinubu’s political agenda and ensuring the success of his administration’s initiatives. “I had no option but to accept the offer,” he said, adding that he would dedicate all his resources to the cause. President Tinubu, whom Megida praised as a courageous and transformative leader, is central to the group’s mission. Megida described the president’s leadership as visionary, noting that his policies have the potential to reshape Nigeria’s future. The group’s efforts are aimed at supporting Tinubu’s second term and facilitating the implementation of his transformative programs. The Renewed Initiative For Grassroots Development operates across all 36 states of the federation, including Abuja, and maintains a significant presence in the diaspora communities in countries such as Spain, England, America, China, and Switzerland. Some members reportedly visited the group’s national headquarters in July, just three weeks prior to the Lagos meeting, indicating ongoing coordination and collaboration. The Lagos State Co-ordination team includes several high-profile figures. Prince Hon Adegboyega Ayo Ibraheem serves as the National Secretary, while Denayon Abiodun John holds the position of Lagos State Secretary. Other members include Mrs. Motunrayo Salawu, known as Iya Pupa, Princess Clara Oyegbemi, and Alhaji Olasunwon Olatanwa, who acts as the Organizing Secretary. Their collective effort underscores the group’s structured approach to achieving its goals. The group’s activities extend beyond political advocacy, encompassing charitable work that supports vulnerable groups such as artisans, traders, widows, and the underprivileged. Financial aid provided by Megida and other contributors has enabled these individuals to improve their living conditions, reflecting the group’s dual focus on social welfare and political engagement.
