Large operation: lightning strike caused forest fire

A wildfire was reportedly caused by a lightning strike in the district of Villach on Tuesday afternoon. Police officers from the Arnoldstein inspection were informed around 2 PM about a fire at a forest area in the Alplgraben or Breiten Kopf in the municipality of Nötsch. Due to difficult terrain, access was blocked, and around 3 PM, the police helicopter 'Libelle' conducted an aerial survey. The helicopter crew identified a 40 square meter area that had caught fire. Volunteer firefighters from Nötsch, Arnoldstein, Kreuth, St. Georgen, and Feistritz/Gail launched a firefighting operation with 40 members. The police helicopter supported them by dropping approximately 1,000 liters of water.
