The regulation applies to heavily frequented sections of the shoreline, including areas from Punto Lido to Porto San Nicolò. Violators face penalties ranging from €25 to €150. The decision follows numerous complaints from bathers who felt disturbed or endangered by flying balls. Reports indicate that balls frequently flew between sun lounges and families, sparking concerns over safety. These incidents led to discussions about how to better protect all beachgoers. A local ordinance was signed by the mayor of Riva del Garda, prohibiting all forms of ball play along the shorelines, according to the Italian publication Il Dolomiti. Local authorities acknowledge the desire of younger children to engage in physical activity and social play, yet they emphasize the need to ensure the safety of all visitors. Officials noted that the area attracts a diverse group of individuals, including elderly people, families with children, and others who may be more vulnerable to accidents. “This is especially important during the summer months when the number of visitors increases significantly,” stated a city council member. Those wishing to continue playing sports are advised to avoid crowded areas and instead use designated fields located north of the cycling and pedestrian path.
