Future bleak for Gaza as Israel's genocidal war marks 1,000 days

Both Israelis and Palestinians have experienced profound trauma over the past 1,000 days. For Israelis, the memory of the October 7 attack, which claimed over 1,200 lives and saw the capture of 251 hostages, remains deeply etched in collective consciousness. The subsequent conflicts with Iran-backed groups in Lebanon, Yemen, and elsewhere have added layers of complexity to the regional dynamics. As the anniversary approaches, Israelis are commemorating the event through various means, including gatherings at sites associated with the tragedy and reflecting on the broader implications of the ongoing conflict.

Amid these challenges, the role of external actors remains pivotal. The Board of Peace established by former U.S. president Donald Trump, intended to facilitate Gaza’s recovery, has struggled to gain traction despite initial promises and financial commitments. Publicly, the board has become increasingly silent, raising questions about its effectiveness in addressing the multifaceted challenges facing the region. With both sides entrenched in their positions and international mediation efforts faltering, the path forward appears fraught with uncertainty, leaving the future of Gaza hanging in the balance.
