The Slovenian music collective FUNCTION has expanded its monthly residency beyond its original home and is set to embark on a mini world tour across Slovenia this autumn. Starting with a series of performances in late August, the group will continue their journey through September with shows in new venues, including the newly launched club POPUP in Ljubljana. The tour, which began with three events in early August, marks a significant step forward for the trio, comprising Erik, Guba, and Maks, who have built a reputation for bringing fresh sounds and high-energy vibes to local audiences. FUNCTION’s journey began with a monthly residency that quickly became a popular gathering point for fans of modern rap, hip-hop, trap, house, and feel-good music. What started as a small event in a private space grew into a movement, drawing crowds who were eager to experience the unique blend of music and community spirit the group offers. According to one of the members, the core of FUNCTION lies not in individual names or appearances, but in the shared passion for creating an environment where people can come together and enjoy themselves. “FUNCTION is synonymous with modern rap, trap, hip-hop, and house,” they explained. “We bring the same energy you’d find in America and abroad, but we also make sure there’s room for some great Slovenian tracks.” The group’s monthly gatherings, held every third Thursday of the month since November, quickly outgrew their initial venue, Smash, which was no longer sufficient to accommodate the growing crowd. This led to the decision to take their show on the road, starting with a series of performances in different locations across Slovenia. Their first leg of the tour included events in Ljubljana, Duplek, and Škofja Loka during the end of August, followed by more dates planned for September. Each location brings its own unique flavor, with the group adapting their playlist to suit the local audience while maintaining the core identity of their brand. The upcoming launch of the POPUP club in Ljubljana represents another milestone for FUNCTION. Located on the student campus, the new venue aims to provide a creative space for artists and locals seeking an alternative to traditional nightlife options. The group has been working closely with emerging and established creators to shape the club’s identity, though specific details remain under wraps. They expect the venue to open in mid-September, offering a new stage for their ongoing efforts to connect with audiences through music and community engagement. As part of their tour, FUNCTION plans to tailor their sets to each city, incorporating local hits alongside their signature sound. In Maribor, they intend to play the track “Umrla mi je roža” by the band Demm, along with selections from Emke. For Škofja Loka, they hinted at possible tributes to local talent, even suggesting a performance by the influential artist Soba 102, a nod to the region’s rich musical heritage. These choices reflect the group’s commitment to blending national pride with global influences, ensuring each performance feels both familiar and exciting.
