The European Court of Justice has ruled on a significant issue regarding copyright law and digital access to cultural heritage. The court determined that works which are in the public domain in one EU member state can be freely offered online, even if they remain protected under copyright laws in other EU countries. This decision hinges on the effectiveness of geographic restrictions, known as geoblocking, which must be enforceable even when bypassed using virtual private networks (VPNs). The ruling provides legal clarity for online archives and educational institutions, ensuring they can offer such content without fear of infringing upon copyright protections elsewhere in Europe. The leading manufacturer of farm equipment, John Deere, and the United States Trade Commission have agreed to terms that allow farmers and independent workshops access to repair tools and software necessary for maintaining their machines. Previously, these resources were restricted to authorized dealers who typically charged higher prices for repairs and replacement parts compared to local workshops. The U.S. authority had previously threatened legal action against John Deere for practices deemed anti-competitive, arguing that such monopolistic behavior undermined the right of American farmers to repair their equipment independently. As part of the agreement, John Deere has committed to providing access to these tools and software for a period of ten years. A major international operation targeting social engineering fraud was conducted simultaneously, involving 97 countries and coordinated by Interpol. During the operation, named “First Light 2026,” authorities arrested 5,811 suspects and secured illegal assets worth $293 million. The initiative focused on combating various forms of cybercrime, including email compromise, sextortion, romance scams, identity theft, investment fraud, and money laundering. According to Interpol, more than 142,000 victims were identified globally, with 31,014 bank accounts frozen and an additional 15,606 suspects identified beyond those directly arrested. These efforts highlight the global scale of organized criminal networks engaged in deceptive financial activities and underscore the importance of international cooperation in addressing such threats. Meanwhile, a demonstration by the defense company Azak showcased advanced robotics technology developed for military applications. Based in Denver, Colorado, Azak demonstrated a small, approximately 226.8-kilogram unmanned robot capable of pulling a military logistics truck, including its load, weighing a total of 24.5 tons. The robot managed to move the vehicle, which weighed over 100 times its own mass, across uneven terrain. This feat was made possible by Azak's proprietary wheel technology, the S26 wheels, which integrate drive systems, power supply, and control mechanisms into each unit.
