According to local reports, a bolt of lightning struck a transformer station at the Rijeka refinery, leaving it without power. The incident occurred just over an hour ago, prompting immediate action from authorities. The weather changes were marked by intense rainfall and wind affecting the Rijeka area. Forecasts from the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service indicate variable cloudy conditions with rain, primarily in inland areas and specifically in the Rijeka region. Two weather alarms are currently active for this area, yellow alerts due to strong south and southwest winds that could shift further by midday, potentially causing localized disruptions in outdoor activities. Drivers in Pula have been warned about rising water levels near the Mandrača parking lot, where parked vehicles might be at risk of being washed away into the sea. Authorities urged drivers to report their vehicle locations via media so they can be aware of the situation. Later updates indicated that the sea had begun to recede, reducing the danger of vehicles being swept away. In addition to the Rijeka and Pula areas, severe weather has impacted Rab. Firefighters from the Primorsko-Goranska County Fire Department reported damage to multiple buildings, including a kindergarten. Five teams are currently engaged in pumping out affected structures such as the kindergarten building, police station, residential homes, and boats. One team was dispatched to Lopar to assist with roof repairs using a high-reach vehicle. Additionally, the Lopar Fire Department responded to an incident involving a damaged telephone pole. A yellow weather alert is also in effect for potential thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall, local hail, and strong weather conditions. Wind speeds could reach up to 64 km/h, with rainfall amounts possibly exceeding 70 mm. The probability of thunderstorms is estimated at over 80 percent. The warning advises people to prepare for stronger thunderstorm conditions that could cause significant damage and urges protection against lightning strikes. Possible damages include property loss and tree damage, along with localized flash floods, strong gusts of wind, and hail. There may also be interruptions in outdoor activities and traffic. Authorities continue monitoring the situation and advising residents to take precautions. Emergency services remain on standby to respond to any additional incidents resulting from the severe weather.
