Traditional rural games brought together heritage, competition, and community in Destrnik today, offering visitors a vibrant blend of folk traditions, local cuisine, music, and leisure. The event, held in the village, featured a wide array of activities designed to showcase the rich agricultural legacy of the region while fostering camaraderie among participants and spectators alike. Starting in the afternoon, attendees were treated to traditional food such as gibanice and krapce, setting the stage for the day’s festivities. The central part of the gathering began with the registration of teams, followed by competitive challenges that tested both skill and endurance. Participants engaged in various rustic tasks, including driving stakes into the ground, carrying water in wooden clogs, harvesting potatoes, and preparing traditional country stew. These activities highlighted the physical and practical aspects of rural life, drawing parallels between past and present. A special attraction was the parade of old farming customs, which offered visitors a glimpse into historical village life. The display included traditional tools, handcrafts, vintage farm equipment, and costumes passed down through generations. Among the highlights were demonstrations by the Vintarović family, who showcased tree-cutting techniques, ancient self-reaping methods, and the processing of grains. Visitors could also witness potato harvesting, grape picking with the vine queen, and a demonstration of a historic fire pump and tank by the Desenči firefighters. The carnival prince made a grand entrance during the procession, adding a touch of pageantry to the event. Irena Pernat, president of the Tourist Society of Destrnik, emphasized the educational aspect of the parade, noting that each element was carefully chosen to reflect the village's cultural roots. “Visitors can expect to see the Vintarović family demonstrating tree cutting, showcasing ancient self-reaping methods, bintmlin, grain processing, potato harvesting, and grape picking with the vine queen. Firefighters from Desenči will demonstrate an old pump and tank, and the carnival prince will make an appearance,” she explained. Following the competitive and social segments of the event, evening celebrations commenced. The Banovšek Ensemble provided live music and dancing, ensuring the festivities continued well into the night. The atmosphere remained lively and communal, reinforcing the spirit of togetherness that defines such traditional gatherings. The festival also had a charitable component, with visitors encouraged to contribute to the cause of Teu throughout the day. Donations could be made via SMS messages sent to the number 1919 using the codes TEO5 or TEO10. This initiative underscored the community-driven nature of the event, linking cultural preservation with contemporary social responsibility. The Kmečke igre in Destrnik continue to serve as a vital link between the past and present, celebrating the enduring traditions of rural life while adapting to modern values.
