Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker has indicated willingness to reduce the national aviation tax, responding to sustained pressure from eight state governors, airlines, and airports. During his visit to China, Stocker stated that the government intends to lower the fee, which currently stands at 12 euros per ticket and rises to 30 euros for short-haul flights under 350 kilometers. The demand for reform was driven by concerns over competitiveness, with low-cost carrier Ryanair threatening negative consequences for its Austrian operations if the tax remains unchanged. Industry representatives noted that several European neighbors, including Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, and Sweden, have abolished similar levies, while Germany implemented a reduction.
