Angie Nixon compares ICE agents to 'modern-day slave catchers'

Florida Democrat Senate candidate Angie Nixon has drawn sharp criticism for her inflammatory rhetoric toward Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), labeling its agents as “modern-day slave catchers” and describing enforcement actions as “state-sanctioned violence.” The remarks come amid her campaign against incumbent Senator Ashley Moody (R-FL), with Nixon positioning herself as a staunch advocate for dismantling ICE as part of her broader progressive agenda. In recent posts and public statements, Nixon has used strong language to describe ICE officers, referring to them as “THUGS” and “kidnappers.” She has likened immigration detention centers to a “modern day concentration camp” and has called for the complete abolition of the agency. These comments were amplified during a recent interview clip shared by RNC Research, where Nixon claimed that Republican lawmakers are “literally trying to kill us” through their support of ICE enforcement policies. Nixon’s stance reflects her alignment with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), which advocates for systemic change and the dismantling of institutions deemed oppressive. She argues that ICE functions as a “paramilitary force” that “terrorizes our neighborhoods” and operates outside the bounds of accountability. Her rhetoric suggests a deep skepticism of federal immigration policy, particularly regarding the treatment of undocumented individuals and the role of law enforcement in enforcing immigration laws. In a statement to Breitbart News, an RNC spokeswoman criticized Nixon’s views, calling her a “socialist nut job” who equates law enforcement with “kidnappers” and “thugs.” The spokesperson highlighted that Nixon seeks to dismantle an agency responsible for apprehending dangerous individuals, including murderers, child predators, drug dealers, and violent criminal illegal aliens. According to the statement, Floridians deserve safety, but Nixon’s position threatens that security by advocating for the abolition of ICE and potentially granting mass amnesty to undocumented residents. Among the individuals Nixon has cited as potential beneficiaries of such a policy are several undocumented immigrants convicted of serious crimes. On August 19, ICE issued a detainer against Shaquiel Sheldon Williams, an illegal alien from Jamaica, who was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly stabbing two Burger King employees in Panama City Beach following a dispute over payment. Antonio Cordova-Sajic, an illegal alien from Guatemala, was convicted of lewd or lascivious conduct in Fort Myers. Victor Hugo Casillo-Vallejo, an illegal alien from the Dominican Republic, faced charges in Tampa related to robbery with a firearm, aiding and abetting Hobbs Act robbery, and assisting in the use of a firearm in a crime of violence. Nixon has also expressed concerns about racial profiling by ICE agents, suggesting that Black Americans could be targeted due to their historical ties to slavery. She warned that such profiling could lead to fatal encounters, stating that “they are going to racially profile us and they are going to escalate things and they are going to shoot and kill us.” She emphasized that her goal is to investigate and hold accountable those she calls “bad actors,” ultimately seeking their arrest and imprisonment. Her comments have sparked controversy within both political and law enforcement circles, with critics accusing her of undermining public safety and promoting radical ideologies under the guise of social justice.
