In today's digital era, where many people spend hours staring at screens or sitting motionless, it is tempting to attribute these postural issues solely to modern technology. However, the situation is more complex. While daily routines undeniably influence posture, a major factor in its deterioration as we age is the gradual decline in muscular strength required to sustain proper alignment. Muscle mass begins to decrease starting around the age of 30, a condition known as sarcopenia. Without deliberate efforts to counteract this loss, the rate of muscle reduction accelerates with advancing years. Muscles in the upper back, shoulders, spine, and core serve critical roles in maintaining an upright stance, functioning much like a built-in framework supporting the skeletal structure. Other effective exercises include the plank, which strengthens the core and promotes stability; the lat pulldown, which enhances upper back engagement; the wall angel, which improves joint mobility and posture awareness; and the bird dog, which reinforces core control and symmetry. Each of these exercises contributes to restoring muscular balance, reducing compensatory patterns, and fostering better overall posture.
