V poletnem prestopnem roku je Premier liga ponovno zabeležila zelo visoko finančno porabo, s tem pa potrdila svojo moč v primerjavi z drugimi evropskimi ligami. Skupna poraba vseh 20 klubov je znašala okoli 3,5 milijard britanskih funtov, kar ustvarja nov rekord. Manchester City je bil največji porabnik z porabo približno 500 milijonov evrot, sledili mu so Chelsea (400M€), Tottenham (365M€) in Newcastle United (312M€). Italijanska Serie A je porabila 1,16 milijard evrot, Nemčija 780 milijonov, Španjolska 755 milijonov in Francija 606 milijonov. Le dva kluba med deseterico največjih porabnikov niso bili iz Premier lige – to sta Real Madrid (220M€) in Barcelona (180M€).
