Family of Kevin, missing teenager and football fan, intensifies his search; deprived of freedom in Mazatlán along with other fans

Violence has continued to escalate in Sinaloa, Mexico, with multiple incidents reported over recent days involving fatalities, kidnappings, and injuries caused by gunfire. In the cities of Culiacán and Mazatlán, two individuals were killed, while another man was taken hostage near a commercial plaza. Additionally, five people suffered gunshot wounds during separate attacks, highlighting the ongoing security crisis in the region.

In Culiacán, authorities received reports of a woman named Paola “N” who was found dead near a secondary school on the street Municipio Libre in the Barrancos neighborhood. The incident occurred after she was shot multiple times. Emergency services, including military personnel, state and municipal police, and Red Cross ambulances, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, paramedics confirmed that she had no vital signs. Meanwhile, in Mazatlán, a young man was attacked by two individuals riding a motorcycle on José María Canizales Street in the city center. He was pronounced dead due to his injuries following medical attention.

Another incident took place when a group of armed men intercepted a man near a convenience store located in the Plaza Patio area, adjacent to the Mexico-Nogales highway, just outside Mazatlán. According to reports, the man was forced into one of two vehicles—a white Ram model—by several armed individuals before they fled quickly. The vehicle used in the abduction remains unidentified, though details suggest it was relatively new.

Separately, five men sustained gunshot wounds in distinct areas of the city. Three of them were found injured inside a home on Noria Street in the Loma de Rodrigara neighborhood, which is located in the northern part of Culiacán. Authorities were alerted through emergency calls about the attack, prompting the Red Cross to provide immediate assistance and transport the victims to hospitals. Another incident occurred in the Renato Vega neighborhood of Culiacán, where two men were also treated by paramedics and taken to a hospital due to firearm-related injuries. Local residents on Mina Real Street reported hearing gunshots and finding injured individuals, though their identities remain unknown.

The violence in Sinaloa has been marked by a series of high-profile disappearances and unresolved cases. One such case involves Kevin Ernesto Verdugo Cervantes, a 17-year-old boy with autism who vanished 16 months ago in Mazatlán. His family intensified efforts to locate him amid the World Cup celebrations, as he was known for his passion for football. Kevin was reportedly kidnapped along with other fans during a match in the Benito Juárez neighborhood. Despite the filing of a formal complaint, there have been no significant developments in the investigation into his disappearance.

Additionally, six members of the social media group "Bola Costera," originally from Nayarit, went missing while traveling to Mazatlán. They were last seen driving a white van near the town of El Rosario. Their families and friends have since taken to social media to request public help in locating them. This incident occurs against a backdrop of heightened violence in southern Sinaloa, particularly in municipalities like Escuinapa and El Rosario, where drone-launched explosives and ongoing clashes between rival groups have become common occurrences.

The mother of Carlos Emilio, another young man who disappeared in Mazatlán, recently met with prosecutors eight months after his disappearance. Her meeting underscores the prolonged nature of these cases and the lack of resolution despite ongoing investigations.
