Explosion in Qatar: dead and dozens injured

An explosion occurred in the industrial area of Ras Laffan in Qatar, resulting in at least 13 deaths and 66 injuries. The incident was attributed to a technical defect during the commissioning of facilities by the state-owned energy company Qatar Energy. According to Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi, the explosion and subsequent fire at the local gas supply facility Barsan were accidental and not the result of sabotage or hostile action. The victims were reported to be Indian and Pakistani nationals. Firefighters managed to control the blaze by late evening.
