The trailer for Ramayana: Part One, released recently, has sparked widespread discussion among fans and critics alike. While the visual spectacle and performances of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana have drawn praise, one notable absence has raised eyebrows: Sunny Deol’s portrayal of Lord Hanuman. Fans, who hold the deity in high regard, have questioned why the iconic figure, often considered one of the most revered characters in the epic, is not featured prominently in the trailer. According to reports, the decision to exclude Lord Hanuman from the trailer stems from the film’s structure. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana: Part One is part of a planned two-part adaptation of the ancient Hindu epic. The first film focuses on the early stages of the story, including Lord Ram’s exile, Sita’s abduction, and Ravana’s emergence as the primary antagonist. In this context, the filmmakers have opted to introduce key characters such as Ram, Sita, Lakshman, and Ravana, leaving Hanuman’s introduction for later. This approach aligns with the chronological progression of the Ramayana. Lord Hanuman enters the narrative only after Ram’s exile and Sita’s abduction, becoming a pivotal force in the conflict against Ravana. His presence grows more significant in the latter half of the story, making his full introduction in the second film a logical choice. This strategy allows the first installment to establish the core characters and setting before building up to Hanuman’s dramatic entrance. Industry insiders suggest that the omission of Hanuman from the trailer is also a strategic move. As a deeply worshipped deity, Hanuman holds a unique place in Indian culture. Introducing Sunny Deol’s portrayal too early might overshadow the other lead characters, particularly in a trailer designed to highlight the film’s main attractions. The decision to save Hanuman’s appearance for the second film could also serve to build anticipation, ensuring that his introduction becomes a major highlight of the sequel. Sunny Deol himself has spoken about his role in the film. At a recent screening in Delhi, he mentioned that he had only just begun filming his scenes. “I have done only a little work on the film so far,” he said. “I still have a long way to go.” Deol expressed his deep respect for the character, calling the role both challenging and rewarding. “It is not easy to portray him, but it is going to be a great experience because he is innocent, strong and powerful.” Director Nitesh Tiwari has also hinted at a cliffhanger ending for Part One. During an event in San Diego, he described how the film concludes, saying, “Where we leave in Part One is something which is, you can call it a cliffhanger, something which will make people want to watch Part Two the moment they leave the theatre.” While Tiwari did not reveal specifics, fans speculate that Hanuman’s arrival could be the catalyst for this suspenseful ending. Currently, the filmmakers have not disclosed Sunny Deol’s look as Lord Hanuman nor provided further clarification on his absence from the trailer. However, based on the film’s narrative structure, it seems likely that Hanuman will receive a brief mention toward the end of Part One, with his full introduction reserved for Part Two. The first film features a star-studded cast, including Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.
