Government seeks to save 70 thousand mdp in medicines without reducing purchase volume

The Mexican government aims to save approximately 70 billion pesos by consolidating purchases of medicines and medical supplies between 2025 and 2028 through direct acquisitions from manufacturers and competitive bidding, without reducing the volume of products acquired. Eduardo Clark, subsecretary of Integration and Development of the Health Sector, stated that this strategy has already saved around 45 billion pesos in 2025 and 2026, with additional savings expected for 2027 and 2028. The plan includes prioritizing direct purchases from manufacturers, promoting reverse auctions where suppliers compete for better prices, and excluding companies that fail to deliver their assigned products. The government also launched a public platform, compraconsolidada.salud.gob.mx, to provide transparency regarding purchased medications, quantities, suppliers, costs, and delivery compliance. Additionally, the government reported making payments of nearly 10 billion pesos to suppliers in the last month.
