Ex-interior minister to testify in probe targeting Islamic group

Former Turkish Interior Minister İdris Naim Şahin is set to testify in an investigation targeting the Islamic group 'Süleymancılar.' Authorities announced on August 29 that Şahin will provide a statement after two suspects linked to the group were detained while attempting to flee Turkey. Hilmi Tuna Kuriş, brother of the group's leader, and Erhan Yılmaz were stopped in Marmaris' Bozburun district in a vehicle previously rented by Şahin for personal use. Şahin claims he was unaware the vehicle was used to transport the suspects and has filed a criminal complaint. Subsequently, justice ministry sources revealed that two other vehicles assigned to Şahin were involved in suspicious activities, leading to their seizure. On August 16, a Turkish court ordered the arrest of Alihan Kuriş and other leaders of the Süleymancılar group on charges of money laundering and corruption.
