Musician from 'Camilo Séptimo' is murdered in the Emerald Zone

She confirmed that the founder of the collective "Voces Unidas por la Vida" and her daughter, who were victims of a shooting attack last Saturday, have been released from hospital and are under protection. The body of Zazueta Páez was found in the Infonavit Las Fuentes neighborhood early Sunday morning. This incident adds to the disappearance of Misael Aguilar Espiricueta, the municipal secretary of Palmillas, who has been missing since six days ago after being forced off a public transport vehicle by armed individuals. His family has shared his photograph and physical description through social media, describing him as a robust man of 1.70 meters tall, with short black hair and a scar on his left eyebrow. Authorities in Escuinapa continue search operations for Aguilar Espiricueta, but so far have had no success in locating him. The state's Public Security Secretariat issued a statement shortly after the discovery of the body, identifying the deceased as the municipal police and traffic official. The body was found with signs indicating he had been shot, and the State Attorney General’s Office opened an investigation into the case. Víctor Díaz Simental, the mayor of Escuinapa, expressed concern over the ongoing violence, noting that Zazueta Páez carried out his duties normally the previous day before his body was discovered with gunshot wounds. In a separate development, Jonathan Samuel Meléndez Ochoa, a keyboardist and producer for the band Camilo Séptimo, along with his wife, their three-year-old daughter, and their domestic worker, were killed in a house in the exclusive Zona Esmeralda residential area in Atizapán de Zaragoza, Mexico State. Their dog was also killed, while a six-year-old child survived the attack. Authorities confirmed that two suspects, identified as Gerardo N and Diego Sebastián N, were arrested within 12 hours of the incident. Diego Sebastián N was described as a business associate of Meléndez. According to the State Attorney General’s Office, the killings occurred between 5:30 PM and 7:40 PM on September 1st. Neighbors reported hearing screams and gunshots coming from the home. Municipal police arrived first, cordoned off the area, and informed the state attorney general’s office. They found four bodies, including the dog, with some victims bound and showing signs of gunshot wounds. One victim had a bullet wound to the back. Diego Sebastián N was apprehended with the help of state and federal authorities. Gerardo N was also captured, though details about his involvement remain unclear. Surveillance footage showed Diego Sebastián entering the building carrying a backpack, wearing dark clothing, a cap, and sunglasses. There were reports that Meléndez owed Diego Sebastián money, but this information has not been officially confirmed. Both suspects were taken to the State Attorney General’s Office headquarters in Toluca, where they were giving statements. They face charges of resistance and bribery, with an arrest warrant for multiple homicides expected soon. They will likely be transferred to a prison facility afterward. Meanwhile, experts warn that the recent explosion in Ojocaliente, Zacatecas, attributed to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), could signal the beginning of increased violence in the region. Analyst David Saucedo suggested that the attack might be part of a larger conflict involving younger cartel leaders, potentially leading to heightened tensions across several states.
