In February 2024, two men robbed the store, threatening the manager with a firearm before fleeing in a car driven by a third person. The only physical evidence left behind was a disposable glove, which contained DNA that initially could not be matched to anyone in the national database. However, this same DNA had previously been found at two other crime scenes: a 2003 burglary in Colnrade where an 84-year-old woman was attacked, and a 2023 break-in at a gaming hall in Wildeshausen. Police traced the DNA to a 40-year-old man who lived near the victim’s home in 2003. A saliva sample confirmed his identity, linking him to the recent robbery. Authorities are now investigating the 40-year-old for attempted aggravated robbery and are looking into potential accomplices.
