Erdoğan harshly warns Israel, Greek Cyprus over east Med

In a significant show of solidarity, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has publicly endorsed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s strong stance on the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus. This alignment comes amid ongoing tensions in the region, particularly concerning the rights and interests of Turkey and Turkish Cypriots. TRNC President Tufan Erhürman expressed full support for Erdoğan’s recent statements, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration between Ankara and the TRNC on matters related to security, energy, and maritime jurisdictions.

During a news conference marking his first 200 days in office, Erhürman highlighted the importance of maintaining a unified front against any initiatives that seek to exclude Turkish Cypriots and Turkey from critical regional discussions. He stated that the TRNC administration has been actively engaging in diplomatic efforts through various international platforms, including the Antalya Diplomacy Forum and the Organization of Turkic States, to advocate for the interests of Turkish Cypriots. Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi recently concluded an official visit to the TRNC, focusing on enhancing cooperation in areas such as law enforcement, border security, migration management, and disaster response. During his visit, Çiftçi met with several high-ranking TRNC officials, including President Erhürman, Parliament Speaker Ziya Öztürkler, and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel. Discussions centered around deepening collaboration against transnational criminal networks, which Çiftçi described as a significant threat to both Turkey and the TRNC.

Çiftçi emphasized the necessity of joint efforts to combat organized crime and narcotics trafficking, noting that these activities often serve as a financial backbone for terrorist organizations. Both sides agreed on the importance of preventing criminal networks from operating freely within their territories. Additionally, Çiftçi pledged increased support from Turkish institutions responsible for migration and disaster management, including plans for personnel exchanges, training programs, and the sharing of operational experiences.
