Enugu State Govt approves massive infrastructural, tourism projects

Enugu State Governor's office has announced the approval of a wide range of infrastructure and tourism projects aimed at boosting economic growth and improving public amenities across the region. The decision was made during the recent State Executive Council (SEC) meeting, which saw multiple commissioners present updates on the developments. Among the key projects approved is the completion and upgrading of Wings C and D of the Enugu State Secretariat Complex located in GRA, Enugu. These wings had been left incomplete since their initial planning in 2015, leaving them in a dilapidated condition. The upgrades aim to transform these areas into modern facilities while addressing issues faced in the existing Wings A and B. Additionally, the council approved the initiation of repairs on Wings A and B to tackle the structural problems they face. The state government has also greenlit the construction of 1,000 fully detached terrace housing units composed of four- and five-bedroom homes. Alongside this, there is a plan to develop 18,000 mass housing units at Gateway Estate in Enugu. This initiative seeks to alleviate the current housing shortage and reduce housing costs within the state. The housing development will include necessary road infrastructure and essential services such as water and electricity. Another significant project involves the immediate commencement of a 10.5km road connecting Igogoro, Amachara, Ikpamodo, Okpo, and Amaada. This road is intended to enhance connectivity in the region. In response to recurring flood issues in parts of Nsukka, the administration has approved work on flashflood points along the Nsukka major road and the construction of five adjoining streets. This includes repairing all damaged drainage systems and clearing blocked drains to mitigate the flooding problem. The project has been entrusted to a reputable company to ensure its successful execution. To support direct labor projects, intervention, and maintenance works, the Exco approved the procurement of more than 30 pieces of light equipment for the Ministry of Works. This move is expected to significantly cut down the costs associated with such interventions. Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ugochi Madueke, highlighted the approval of three major tourism initiatives. These include the Ovu Lake Golf Resort at Akpawfu in Nkanu East Local Government Area, the Akwuke and Attakwu Tourism Development Projects in Enugu South and Nkanu West Local Government Areas respectively, and the Okpatu, Awhum Cable Car Project. The Ovu Lake Golf Resort is set to offer an 18-hole championship golf course, a luxury hotel with over 100 rooms, a 600-seat conference center, a boat regatta, beautifully landscaped gardens, clubhouses, children's playgrounds, lawn tennis and basketball courts, alongside other world-class recreational facilities. Regarding the Attakwu Tourism Project, Madueke noted that the area is rich in natural beauty and potential for tourism development. The project aims to capitalize on these resources to create a unique tourist destination. Similarly, the Okpatu, Awhum Cable Car Project is designed to provide both scenic views and improved transportation options for visitors and residents alike. These developments align with the administration's broader goal of growing the state's economy from $4 billion to $30 billion within eight years. The projects reflect a commitment to enhancing infrastructure, promoting tourism, and addressing critical housing needs across Enugu State.
