He suggested that such views might reflect an error rather than official party doctrine. Prodi raised concerns about the potential rise of Germany’s Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party, warning that if AfD gained power, Europe’s values would face severe threats. He emphasized that AfD promotes nationalist and racist ideologies, which are fundamentally opposed to European unity. Given Germany’s economic strength and growing military ambitions since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Prodi warned that an AfD-led government could mark the end of European cooperation.
