Meanwhile, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg reportedly constructed a subterranean bunker in Hawaii, while a gated community in Guatemala exists specifically for ultra-wealthy individuals operating under their own legal framework. According to the authors, these preparations are not just about survival but also about maintaining power and control over resources in a world they expect to descend into chaos. The book suggests that the tech oligarchs see themselves as the architects of a new order, one governed by artificial intelligence, transhumanist ideals, and private security forces rather than democratic institutions. This perspective aligns with the belief held by some of these individuals that traditional governance structures are obsolete and that the future belongs to those capable of technological innovation and self-reliance.
