Video of the fire at one of the most popular shrines of the Virgin in the world

A video has emerged showing a shocking arson attack at the sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Medjugorje, Bosnia. A 31-year-old Polish man entered the site around 4:00 AM and set fire to the church’s outdoor altar while defacing the statue of the Queen of Peace. The footage reveals he used a pole to ignite flames, then sprayed flammable liquid before lighting the fire with a lighter. Flames quickly spread, turning the area black with smoke. By morning, the sanctuary was covered in ash and charred objects. The attacker, identified as Bartlomiej Wlodzimierz Krakowiak, painted blasphemous messages on the Virgin’s statue and wrote accusations against the 'visionaries' of Medjugorje. He was known for his documentary detailing his journey from drug addiction and prison to spiritual transformation. The vandalism caused distress among pilgrims and Catholics, especially ahead of the International Youth Festival (Maladifest). Authorities suggest the act could lead to a five-year prison sentence. The parish of St. James has begun cleaning and repairing the sacred spaces.

Bias read (Center): The article presents a factual account of a criminal act without overt ideological slant. While the event involves religious significance and potential political implications due to its location and timing, the reporting focuses on the crime itself rather than promoting a specific political agenda.
