Edo govt issues transmission, distribution licence, power company targets 2026 completion

The Edo State government has granted a transmission and distribution licence to CCETC Ogua Energy Limited, marking a critical step toward completing a 100 megawatt power project in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area. The project, aimed at boosting electricity supply in the region, is expected to be fully completed and commissioned by the end of 2026, according to officials. The licence was formally handed over by the state's Commissioner for Power, Hon. Paul Usenbo, during a ceremony in Benin City. Usenbo confirmed that the first phase of the project, initially slated for completion by the end of July 2026, had met all key requirements and timelines. This success has allowed the focus to shift to the second and final phase of the initiative, which is anticipated to lead to the project's official commissioning by year-end. Most of the major milestones related to the project are expected to be significantly achieved by October 2026, assuming no unexpected challenges or regulatory obstacles arise. However, the commissioner acknowledged that if significant difficulties impact the project's timeline, the state government would consider extending the deadline. Usenbo assured the developers that an extension of time would be considered should such challenges occur. He noted that the completion timeline might be adjusted to the first quarter of 2027 if necessary. Despite the potential need for an extension, the government remains optimistic about the project's progress. Usenbo cited the substantial amount of work already completed at the site and the continuous arrival and installation of power-generation equipment as indicators of positive momentum. He expressed confidence that the generation machines currently being delivered to the project site would be installed and made operational within the projected timeframe.
