eAutoIndex Data retrieval: vehicle owners in five cantons affected

Unknown individuals have accessed large amounts of data from vehicle owners in five Swiss cantons through the eAutoIndex online portal. The affected cantons, Aargau, Luzern, Schaffhausen, Waadt, and Zug, warned of potential criminal activities, including fraudulent demands for payments related to alleged fines or foreign tolls. The data accessed includes publicly available information such as license plate numbers and names and addresses. The breach occurred automatically in mid-August via a technical interface, and the cantons have reported incidents to authorities. Personal data that was intentionally restricted from public access remains unaffected.

Bias read (Center): The article presents a factual report on a data security incident without overtly favoring any political stance. It provides balanced information about the affected cantons, the nature of the breach, and the responses taken by authorities. There is no clear ideological framing or emphasis on one set
