Two cases of West Nile fever have been confirmed in North Macedonia, according to the Clinic for Infectious Diseases in Skopje. Both patients are under medical supervision in the hospital. The clinic emphasized the need for increased caution, especially during summer when mosquitoes transmit the virus. Most infected individuals show no symptoms or only mild clinical signs, while a small number, particularly older adults and those with weakened immune systems, may develop severe neurological complications. Citizens who experience high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, reduced consciousness, or other neurological symptoms after a mosquito bite are advised to seek immediate medical attention. Preventive measures include using repellents, wearing long sleeves and pants outdoors, installing protective window screens, and eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed.
