Dubai's air taxis primed for lift-off after first vertiport approved

Dubai has taken a significant step toward launching commercial air taxi services with the approval of the world's first vertiport at the DXV site near Dubai International Airport. This 3,100-square-meter facility includes two takeoff and landing pads and has received certification from the General Civil Aviation Authority and Skyports Infrastructure for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The vertiport is set to serve up to 170,000 passengers annually once operational, with air taxi services expected to begin before the end of 2026. Additional vertiports are being developed at locations including Dubai Marina, Dubai Mall, and Palm Jumeirah, in partnership with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority. The UAE aims to lead in aviation innovation, with Abu Dhabi planning a network of 10 vertiports for air taxi and eVTOL services.
