Dubai population passed 4.5 million by end of 2025

Dubai's population surpassed 4.5 million by the end of 2025, according to newly released government statistics. The figure, announced by the Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment, shows the emirate's population reached 4.58 million, marking a year-on-year increase of 7.5 percent. This growth reflects continued urban expansion and increased economic activity, with the city maintaining its status as one of the fastest-growing metropolitan regions globally. The data, collected through the Dubai Population Now platform, highlights the city's shift toward real-time population tracking. Unlike traditional census methods used between 1975 and 2005, the current system integrates administrative records, smart technologies, and live data streams to provide continuous insights. During peak daytime hours in 2025, the number of people present in Dubai exceeded 6.392 million, including over 1.812 million temporary visitors primarily engaged in work or tourism. These figures underscore the city's role as a key player in both regional and global commerce and leisure industries. The population surge coincided with notable economic and tourism milestones. Dubai's gross domestic product rose by 5.4 percent in 2025 compared to the prior year, driven by robust business activity and investment. International visitor numbers climbed to 19.6 million, a 5 percent increase, reflecting the city's growing appeal as a premier travel destination. This trend aligns with long-term strategies aimed at positioning Dubai as a global economic and cultural hub. Over the decades, Dubai's population has expanded dramatically, evolving from just 12,000 inhabitants in 1881 to nearly 4.6 million today. This transformation has been fueled by visionary leadership and large-scale infrastructure projects. Under the guidance of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, the emirate has undergone remarkable development. His tenure began in 2006, and he played a central role in launching iconic landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa, completed in 2010. Other landmark initiatives include the Dubai Marina, Dubai Metro, and major retail hubs like the Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates. Sheikh Mohammed's leadership proved vital during the global health crisis, enabling Dubai to recover swiftly from the impacts of the pandemic. The successful staging of Expo 2020 Dubai, originally postponed due to the virus, marked a turning point in restoring international confidence in the city's resilience and capabilities. Recent announcements include the commencement of the first phase of tunnelling for the Metro Blue Line, part of a larger effort to expand the city's transit network. In April, the government launched plans for the Dh34 billion Metro Gold Line, designed to serve over 1.5 million residents. This project includes 18 stations spanning 15 different districts, aiming to enhance connectivity between residential areas, commercial zones, and existing rail services such as Etihad Rail. The 42-kilometer underground route will extend the metro network by 35 percent, supporting the city's ambition to maintain efficient mobility amid rising demand.
