DMK MLA granted bail in defamation case over remarks against Tamil Nadu CM Vijay

Anitha R Radhakrishnan, a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), was granted bail in a defamation case related to remarks he made against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Vijay Joseph during a public meeting on June 20. Radhakrishnan was arrested on July 3 by the Athoor Police Station on charges under Sections 352 and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which relate to statements likely to provoke a breach of peace. During his detention, he accused the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) of attempting to coerce him into defecting from the DMK through aggressive political tactics, including promises of 'full support' if he left the party. He denied any intention to resign from the DMK and reaffirmed his loyalty to party president and Chief Minister MK Stalin. Radhakrishnan also criticized the state government for neglecting social issues in his constituency, such as illegal lottery operations, drug trafficking, and increasing crime rates.
