Dian officiates new customs sanctioning regime: they started socialization

On August 4, Colombia's National Tax and Customs Directorate (Dian) announced the start of new meetings with business leaders and other stakeholders in international trade to explain the new Law 2586 of 2026 and its associated Customs Sanctions Regime. The goal is to ensure understanding of the changes, including topics like customs oversight, the principle of favorability, voluntary correction, precautionary measures, and sanctions applicable to various operators. These sessions began in Bogotá with around 1,500 attendees and aim to strengthen transparency in customs operations by identifying transactions lacking sufficient economic backing or involving false information. The law is intended to reinforce customs control, combat smuggling and money laundering, while protecting the rights of customs users.
