Over 1,200 children participated in the SIP Regional Prodigy 2026 competition, showcasing their mental arithmetic skills at CK Conventions in Mangalagiri on Sunday. The event, one of India's largest such competitions for children, attracted participants aged between five and 14 years. The competition was inaugurated by Col. Shashikanth Thumma, Director of AIIMS Mangalagiri, alongside other notable figures including Sibi Sekhar, director of SIP Academy India, Uma Swaminathan, head of New Franchisee Acquisition, Praveen E.G., regional business head, and Jabeer Baig, Andhra Pradesh head. During his address, Col. Thumma referred to the participants as "live supercomputers," emphasizing their ability to solve mathematical problems more swiftly than traditional calculators. He highlighted how the program fosters skills beyond mere arithmetic, aiding children in tackling life's challenges through enhanced cognitive abilities and problem-solving techniques. Mr. Sibi Sekhar, speaking on the occasion, noted that mental arithmetic holds greater significance in the age of artificial intelligence. He explained that while AI can deliver answers, children must cultivate strong cognitive functions, logical reasoning, focus, memory, and independent thinking, skills that mental arithmetic helps nurture. Uma Swaminathan shared updates on the organization's growth, stating that they currently operate 25 centers within Andhra Pradesh and intend to expand this to 50 centers in the near future. The SIP Regional Prodigy serves as the regional championship for the annual SIP Prodigy competition, acting as a qualifying round for the national finals. Winners from the Andhra Pradesh region will advance to the National SIP Prodigy 2026, set to take place in Kochi in November. Approximately 5,000 children from different parts of the country are expected to participate in the national event. The competition took place at CK Conventions in Mangalagiri, drawing attention from local authorities and educational stakeholders.
