Rain, wind, and storms did not stop them: The Mariborers covered over 60 miles (91 km)

Maribor’s cyclists triumphed over rain, wind and storms, completing more than 91 kilometres during the fourth stage of their special cycling journey commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Middle Economic School and Gymnasium in Maribor. The route, which started in Ljubljana and ended in Ajdovščina, tested participants with challenging weather conditions and demanding terrain. The fourth leg of the event began in Ljubljana, where cyclists faced immediate challenges as heavy rain greeted them at the start. Despite the adverse weather, they pressed on, wearing waterproof jackets and heading toward their destination. The route took them through Vrhniko, Logatec, Planino and Postojna, before reaching Nansko, where the weather briefly improved. However, the journey to the coastal region brought new difficulties. Upon arriving in the coastal area, cyclists were met with sunshine but also fierce storms that accompanied them all the way to Ajdovščina. At the school, officials noted that these elements, rain, wind and storm, were part of the experience, emphasizing the resilience required to complete the challenge. The distance covered during this stage was approximately 91.22 kilometres, with an elevation gain of 719 metres. Cyclists encountered not only inclement weather but also traffic, narrow roads and muddy paths. These obstacles were considered integral to the journey, reinforcing the spirit of endurance and determination among participants. Participants described the day as both physically demanding and rewarding. They highlighted how overcoming these challenges contributed to their sense of pride and satisfaction upon reaching the finish line. Their success underscored the strength and perseverance of the community involved in the event. Looking ahead, the organizers have expressed confidence that future stages will continue to push participants' limits while maintaining the celebratory tone of the centenary commemoration.
