Director of Public Security of Sixto Verduzco, Michoacán, and three others detained; facing charges for disappearance

Authorities in Michoacán detained the municipal security director of José Sixto Verduzco and three other individuals on Friday, accusing them of involvement in the disappearance of persons. The operation was carried out by investigators from the Attorney General’s Office (FGE), alongside federal and state forces including the National Defense Secretariat (DEFENSA) and the National Guard (GN). The arrests took place in the municipalities of José Sixto Verduzco and La Piedad as part of ongoing investigations into cases of missing persons. The four detainees, José Manuel Tapia Hernández, the municipal security director, and three unnamed officers, were placed under judicial custody following the execution of four warrants of arrest. In addition, four searches were conducted at properties in José Sixto Verduzco, during which evidence related to the investigation was collected. The Fiscalía has maintained confidentiality regarding specific details of the case, citing the need to protect the integrity of the inquiry. Among the individuals apprehended were Óscar David Becerra Chávez, José Antonio Arias Pérez, and Gerardo Calderas Flores, all affiliated with local law enforcement. These actions followed reports of violent incidents involving armed groups in the region. Earlier this week, military personnel in La Piedad came under fire from an armed group on the road between La Piedad and Zamora. Three assailants were killed in the exchange, while one teenager sustained injuries and was taken to a public hospital in the area, where borders between Michoacán, Guanajuato, and Jalisco converge. At the scene, soldiers recovered four long firearms, a grenade launcher attachment, tactical vests, and ammunition.
