Famous mountaineer Nirmal Purja disappears along with nine people after an avalanche in Pakistan

Ten people, including renowned Nepali climber Nirmal Purja, are missing after an avalanche in northern Pakistan while they were on an expedition, according to the Pakistan Alpine Club. The incident occurred on the Broad Peak (8,047 meters) in the Karakoram range. The group, which included climbers from Nepal, Pakistan, Oman, the United States, and China, has not been contacted despite ongoing search efforts. Rescue operations are being coordinated, but conditions remain challenging. Purja, who previously served in the British Gurkha Brigade and later joined the Royal Marine Special Boat Squadron, was known for his record-breaking climbs, including scaling all 14 'eight-thousanders' in six months and six days in 2019. His achievement was featured in the Netflix documentary '14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible.' In 2021, he completed the first winter ascent of K2 with nine other Nepalese climbers.
