David Amaro has spoken openly about his roots, strict upbringing, and success that transformed his life. In the past year, he experienced a turning point after achieving victory at the Biser Jadrana festival with his original song Sine. He described this win as the most meaningful so far, as it was the first time he succeeded as an author. During an interview, he discussed his mother, Bosnian heritage, career beginnings, and doubts that accompanied him throughout his journey. At the Biser Jadrana festival, Amaro won first place with his original song Sine. When asked about the moment they announced his name, he said it was a complete shock. He had attended the festival alone, without a team or high expectations. His main goal was simply to present a good song. In recent years, he has been somewhat hesitant to participate in festivals due to the feeling that much is already decided beforehand. This time, however, during his performance, he sensed that the audience had embraced his music. When the results were being announced, he did not expect any special award, so he believed he would remain in second place. However, points began coming in from individual countries, and suddenly he was at the top. Today, he understands how difficult it is to grow under the spotlight, so he definitely would not send his son to the entertainment industry at the age of 14. Amaro explained why this victory means more than any other so far. It is the victory of his original work. He won with a song he wrote himself, in a language he long questioned whether he could create in. He competed against authors who write for Aleksandra Prijović, Severina, and Marija Šerifović. Before him, the festival was won by Dado Topić, so he well knows how heavy this prize is. Additionally, it meant a lot that he was the only Slovenian performer among 25 contestants from the entire region. Slovenia had only one representative in the expert jury, while other countries had more. The festival director even told him after the announcement that he had the mathematically lowest chance of winning. When the highest scores started coming in from Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Croatian Alps, he finally realized that his song had convinced people who didn’t know him before. That is the biggest victory, winning as David Amaro. As an author. Without connections or behind-the-scenes support. After the victory, Amaro felt that people in the region viewed him differently. When someone in the region says they come from Slovenia, they are sometimes underestimated. This time, however, many started exploring his work after the win. When they saw what he had created at home, they began to look at him with respect. That is why he finds it important for Slovenians to tell what they have done. Too often we put ourselves aside. Has the victory opened new doors for him? Some doors have indeed opened. But today he is in a position where he doesn’t need to accept every offer. He feels that bigger things are still waiting for him. If he had rushed, he might have closed the doors he most wanted to open. Therefore, he remains patient and follows the plan he set for himself before the festival. He wants his first concert abroad to sell out because the people there will genuinely want to hear his music. He does not want to create an artificial image of success. When he steps onto the stage, he wants to know that the audience is there because of his songs. He believes that moment will come. This year also marked the launch of the Croatian version of the show Tvoje lice zvuči poznato. How much has this changed his life? Primarily, it opened doors to an audience outside Slovenia. When he arrived at Biser Jadrana, he was surprised by how many people already knew him thanks to the show. At that moment, he truly understood how far television can reach. The show gave him countless experiences. Every week, he had to step into the shoes of another performer, understand them, and present them as sincerely as possible. This greatly developed him as a singer. At the same time, he always knew he wanted people to stay because of his music. That is why the victory at Biser Jadrana means so much to him. Perhaps it was even better that he did not receive the biggest recognition as an impersonator or TV face, but as David Amaro with his own song.
