Dating show Hello Mr Right has returned for a fourth season with a revamped approach aimed at fostering deeper, more sustainable relationships among Nigerian singles. The show, produced by StarTimes in collaboration with MTN, held its auditions at Hotsport Studio in Oregun, Lagos, on Saturday, introducing a new hosting pair, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, known as KieKie, and Nelson Nwerem, referred to as Prince. This season introduces the “Golden Date 2.0” format, emphasizing compatibility, self-awareness, and shared values over physical attraction alone. Yemi Ogundeji, Head of Original Content Production at StarTimes Nigeria, highlighted the shift in focus, noting that many past relationships formed during earlier seasons had not endured beyond a year. To address this, the show now requires contestants to move beyond initial impressions and engage in meaningful dialogue to assess mutual understanding and alignment of values. Contestants are challenged to identify each other's "Mumu button", a personal trait or preference that draws them to a potential partner. The revised format includes a structured selection process where men choose women based on physical attraction, followed by a lights-on system where women signal their interest. Those who receive attention advance to a Q&A segment, where they attempt to uncover the man’s preferences. Success in these stages results in either a "Perfect Date" or a coveted "Golden Date," signifying a stronger connection. Jide Ali, Series Director of Hello Mr Right Nigeria Season 4, emphasized the balance between entertainment and genuine relationship-building. Each episode features 12 single women and three men, allowing both genders to play active roles in selecting potential partners. The show aims to provide a platform for young Nigerians to connect meaningfully while delivering engaging content for viewers. Shine Begho, one of the judges, stressed the importance of selecting sincere participants who are genuinely seeking relationships rather than merely seeking television exposure. She noted that physical attraction should not overshadow other essential qualities such as character and compatibility. Another judge, Pelumi Buari, added that contestants must first understand themselves before attempting to find a compatible partner. The production team has also planned to track some of the couples post-show to evaluate whether relationships initiated on television can last beyond the cameras. This initiative reflects the producers' commitment to ensuring that the show contributes positively to real-life relationships. With its renewed focus on depth and authenticity, Hello Mr Right Season 4 seeks to redefine how singles approach dating in contemporary Nigeria. By integrating elements of self-reflection and mutual understanding into its format, the show aims to foster lasting connections while continuing to entertain audiences. As the season progresses, the outcomes of these efforts will become clearer, offering insights into the effectiveness of this new approach to matchmaking.
