Dangote refinery to consume 2.5% of globally traded crude

Aliko Dangote, CEO of the Dangote Refinery, announced that once operational, the facility will consume approximately 2.5% of globally traded crude oil and represent around 10% of U.S. refining capacity. This announcement was made during a visit by the Nigerian Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh, to inspect the refinery and related facilities. Dangote highlighted the project as one of the largest risks of his career, overcoming challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, foreign exchange issues, and skepticism from financiers. He emphasized the importance of industrialization for national prosperity and called for government support to foster domestic investment. Dangote also noted recent successful fundraising efforts by his company, which demonstrated increased investor confidence in Nigerian private-sector institutions.
